Wolves sign Cameroon international

Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially completed the signing of defender Jackson Tchatchoua from Italian outfit Hellas Verona. The Cameroon international has moved for a reported fee of around 12.5m euros and has put pen to paper a five-year-deal at Molineux, with the option of an additional year also built into the deal.

Tchatchoua was the fastest player in Serie A last season, hitting a top speed of 36.3 km/h in the Italian top flight for Verona. The 23-year-old was born in Belgium and came through the ranks at Charleroi before sealing a loan switch to Verona in 2023, a move that became permanent the following year.

Tchatchoua is primarily a right back by trade, but is also capable of playing on the left side if required. He is expected to fill the void left by Nelson Semedo’s departure to Fenerbahce. The Midlands outfit were earlier interested in Marc Pubill and Juanlu Sanchez, but opted for Tchatchoua when deals for the former didn’t materialise.

Wolves played Dutch international Ki Jana Hoever in Tchatchoua’s position in their season opener against Man City over the weekend. The home side eventually lost 4-0 to Pep Guardiola’s side.

The Midlands outfit’s next game is an away trip to the Vitality Stadium to take on Bournemouth.
